Looking Ahead to the Future

The sun rises above the fields at our farm in El Petacal, Mexico, signaling a new day. As we look ahead, the future looks bright for the Nutrilite™ brand.

I’ve been thinking about how easy videoconferencing is these days. Especially the incredible ease with which this virtual platform allows us to connect across continents, yet makes us feel as if we were talking with people in the same room. No longer are we limited to the in-person meetings of days gone by.

Traceability has been a guiding light for the Nutrilite™ brand ever since my father bought his first farm over 80 years ago. And for good reason. It builds trust. He was eager for customers to know where their Nutrilite supplements came from, where he grew the plants used for his products, and how his sustainable farming practices meant his plant concentrates were second to none. His customers could be confident in their purchase because of that level of trust. It’s the proverbial “overnight success” that took decades of hard work to achieve that few people know about. Until now.

The more time I spend with my youngest granddaughter Hazel Honey, the more I find myself brushing up on my knowledge of kids’ nutrition. I suppose it’s a proud grandpa thing. Hazel is an active toddler with an inquisitive mind, so like her parents, I want to make sure her diet fully nourishes both her body and brain. As I suspected, nutrition experts continue to point to one nutrient—the trace mineral iron—as a nutrient of concern. In other words, to make sure young kids get enough iron every day to fuel their rapid growth and development, extra vigilance is needed.

Happy Cows & Healthy Soil

My father Carl F. Rehnborg in a field of alfalfa at the Lakeview Farm, California; circa 1958. The Lakeview farm is now retired, but historically it was considered the “workhorse” farm where we grew many of the long-term crops destined for Nutrilite products. The farm sat on a prehistoric lake bed, which accumulated nutrient-rich sediment that helped contribute to the fertile top soil.

Ever since my father began growing his crops for his food supplements in the 1930s, Nutrilite has been farming organically. Dad didn’t call it organic farming then because the term didn’t yet exist. It was J.I. Rodale who coined the term in the 1940s and is commonly regarded as the father of the modern organic farming movement in the United States.

My Father’s Real Super Power

Sitting next to a life-size statue of my father Carl F. Rehnborg. It’s easy to see why it’s a favorite photo stop for visitors at the Nutrilite Health Institute. The statue was inspired by his famous “Pepper Tree Talks” and his many conversations filled with visionary ideas. Buena Park, California. March 2017.

I’m often asked about the bronze statue of my father at the entrance of the Nutrilite Health Institute. He sits on a bench, under the shade of a tree, with his journal and glasses in hand, gazing into the distance as if reflecting on a thought. The statute is a tribute to his famous “Pepper Tree Talks” at our Hemet farm in the early days. But to me, it represents so much more. Continue reading My Father’s Real Super Power
